In an age when cheap clothes and fast fashion have led to a throwaway mentality, when things go out of style before you even knew they were in, secondhand shopping is a shining beacon of light. Against an army of matching $50 t-shirts, thrifting is the knight in shining fluorescent 80s floral bomber jacket charging to the rescue.
The thrifting phenomenon has taken the country by storm. Even though "charity shops" have been around for over 60 years, secondhand shopping has exploded in popularity over the last decade. Wearing secondhand clothes was been widely looked down upon for centuries, but now thrifting is actually...cool.
It's no secret that I'm a huge supporter of secondhand shopping. The majority of my closet and my home are filled with unique pieces from the last 50+ years. As a kid, my mom would take me to consignment shops and estate sales and thrift stores on a regular basis. I love eclectic vintage clothes. It's just what I know to do.
But as I've gotten older, I've realized that there are some major benefits to buying secondhand.
Always find awesome items and great prices
The staff here are so amazing it baffles me every time. They are very organized and efficient. Friendly and professional. They maintain the cleanliness of the store including sanitization practices and I feel more stores should follow suit. As you enter and leave they have sanitizer available with readily available cart that have been sanitized. These too are taken from you as you leave so that the repeat the cleaning process. They manage the amount of people entering the store and are vigilant that those inside adhere to the direction of the arrows. Overs all this store is very well managed with a great staff.
The staff was very friendly and helpful. I donated a lot of things but filled my car up with more things. They always make sure that is not junk going on the shelves. When I donated they had someone there to help unload my car. What a great service.
