I wanted to share my review after seeing a 1/5 star review. Personally I have found the staff exceptionally caring and very progressive. Treatment has been helpful for me. Staff are very knowledgeable and the service participates in on-going research into eating disorders. Their treatment modalities/delivery change to reflect more current evidence and this has occurred a couple times while I have accessed services. I have done residential, day treatment and outpatient. The rules can be a bit strict and they will kick people out. But they do that typically if they believe you are having too many slip-ups or are demonstrating poor commitment to treatment. Otherwise it would be like being around a bunch of other patients who were drinking at a rehab centre for alcohol. As far as I am aware this is very typical for a lot of voluntary treatment programs. It is a very difficult and challenging area to deliver care in as the illness is incredibly complex and difficult to treat. Self-responsibility, choice and illness are very difficult areas to determine. Overall in this province if not the country, funding is extremely low in comparison to other severely debilitating illnesses such as schizophrenia- considering the prevalence and mortality rate for eating disorders. 'Seats' available in residential, outpatient and in other inpatient programs is very limited, resulting in very lengthy wait-list even for people who are quite ill and are in an urgent need of in-patient beds. *AEDS does not do inpatient but they WILL complete an assessment and refer you to an in-patient program like Credit Valley.* Some people will need different levels of care from OP, residential and day treatment. Recovery often takes several tries and an incredible amount of work. Random facts: Cellphones as far as I am aware ARE still allowed(no pictures for privacy reason). Services are covered by OHIP- perhaps this is still the ONLY residential facility in all of Ontario.
