I had this restaurant on my list of places to eat for about 15 yrs and finally was able to go. This is family operated and I felt so welcome with my family. They serve authentic Mexican cuisine with incredibly big portions and it’s deliciously favourable. I cannot say anywhere else in London Ontario beats this place. If you’re looking for a modern up to date building this isn’t it…it’s cozy and I’d say for a group of 5-8 max can dine in comfortably but it’s not very spacious. The food was fresh, hot, and perfectly on time!
The food is good but there are better taco restaurants in London. The atmosphere is amazing! The decor, music, and seating is why you go! Fun place and has kids menu 😊
Although I was a little hesitant about Mexican food, I visited Under The Volcano today.
Before I could order anything, my server brought me some complementary chips and salsa. These were enjoyably crunchy and seasoned with spices.
I decided to get the Chimichanga for my main. It was a tortilla folded into something like a burrito. Within it, there was cheese, sour cream, chopped tomatoes, and shrimp. I savoured every bite of its cheesey goodness. I had two sides to go with my Chimichanga: rice and fries. The rice did not suit my personal taste. However, the fries were packed with great flavour.
Now, the atmosphere. The interior is colourful and fun. It is decorated with Mexican culture, from paintings on the walls to plants to sombrero hats and to even a toucan ornament. When you eat here, you are immersed in a Mexican experience.
Under the Volcano is an outstanding restaurant, the perfect place to bring your kids or celebrate a birthday. I made the right choice by coming here… and so should you!
Cute little hole in the wall restaurant.
My taco’s were very oily, wet / greasy when I received them. The pulled pork tasted.. a little off is the best way to put it. The beef taco reminded me a bit of taco bell & the chicken taco tasted good - just the “wettest/oiliest” of them all. Unsure why their was celery in everything though lol, should warn people because celery is a very strong tasting food.
Nachos were delicious! Margaritas were delicious (we had mango) & for the price very reasonable for a pitcher. The fried ice-cream was the real star of the show.
Next time I will be coming back just for the ice cream & margaritas lol.
