This is the first time I buy shutters. They really do cut the light when closed and are a snap to operate. We did the entire house with shutters, a great decision. I have a room that gets sun most of the day, it was like a sauna before the shutters. They will certainly be easier to clean than any other type of window dressing. And the installers were meticulous, took their time like they were doing their own home. I definitely recommend them.

I have since installed lined curtains from Costco over my shutters. So for anyone interested in the energy aspects of window coverings, here are some empirical numbers, temperatures taken with an infrared thermometer Oct 28,. 2020 at 8am.
Temperature Outside : -1
Temperature inside Window : 16.8 (Shutters open, curtains open)
Temperature inside Shutters : 20.6 (Shutters closed, curtains open)
Temperature inside Curtains : 23.2 (Shutters and curtains closed)
Temperature of inside walls : 23 (same for floor and ceiling)
So it looks like shutters and curtains are a winning combination.
