While Sri Chinmoy was a controversial figure (followers saw him as a tireless advocate for world peace; critics accussed him of running a cult) what interests me about this sculpture is how an Ottawa woman, back in 2017, decided to pay $300 a month to rent a parking space to place this sculpture on Bank Street.
After some pushback from the city, the monument stayed. Although this is not one of my favourite statues in the city, I do like the fact that a local resident put in the effort to make this project happen.
