It's just spectacular in the spring as the flowers start to bloom. Right now we're just at the beginning of peonies season. There is paid parking which goes to supporting the gardens. And short walk takes you to the agricultural buildings and across the street is the Arboretum.
The staff was friendly and helpful, and the exhibits were informative and interesting. We also got to see a calf being born in the dairy barn. Just be aware that there isn't really a cafeteria (there are places to sit and eat inside and out, with a vending machines for food and coffee), and there isn't a gift shop (only a vending machine with gifts in it). We packed a lunch. All in all, a very good outing for the family.
Loved it. It was a fun and learning experience especially for the kids. A great place for families and schools to visit. And it has such a welcoming atmosphere as the staff are helpful with info and it is built kids in mind.
What a wonderful place to visit with the kids!! I found this while searching for things to do during the long weekend. We came on a Sunday during tulip festival, thankfully there is plenty of parking as it’s very close to commissioner park where the main tulips are located. We were pleased at how well the place is organized and how clean everything is kept. It was great to visit the cows, sheep, horses and even enjoyed some of their shows and demonstrations like sheep shearing and dog sheep ability. We didn’t visit the labs, we focused on seeing the animals. The place is very spacious, plenty of washrooms and locations to clean your hands. Each animal has a sign which indicates their name, breed and date of birth. It’s really interesting and a fun activity to do with the kids. A definite must to visit when in Ottawa!
It was my third visit of this place and I enjoyed it as always very much, although I’m not a kid anymore. In several barns there are cows, pigs, horses and my favourite cute sheep and goats. You can pet the animals and it seems they like it.There is a garden with the flower beds. You can walk through and enjoy all the colorful beauty. It is a very peaceful place. I’ll be definitely back, when I’m in Ottawa again.
