Our grandchildren along with their Mommy and grandparents made an impromptu visit to Station 47 on Friday, Oct. 26 following the Minto Place Hallowe’en party. The firefighters were cooking their dinner when we approached the side door. They were so happy to let us all in. They gave us a thorough tour of one of the fire trucks even letting our grandchildren sit in the drivers seat. One of the firefighters even put on his complete suit. Our 3-year old grandson was dressed as a fireman and while he was shy, he loved seeing the “big” truck.

A big thank you to these wonderful men who represented our fire station and city with such pride!

Fire safety programs and outreach | City of Ottawa

Firefighters visit Ottawa homes each spring and fall and have been doing so since the Wake Up! program began in 2005. They visit homes within the community to encourage residents to install, test and ensure that smoke alarms and carbon monoxide alarms in their homes are present and in working condition.

OFS is urging everyone to keep fire safety in mind as temperatures begin to get colder. Heating equipment and appliances are a leading cause of fires, so paying a little extra attention to potential fire hazards such as fireplaces, space heaters, furnaces, chimneys and vents could prevent an emergency.
