Great access point for a short canoe, there is a vault toliet and plenty of parking spaces that are well marked to ensure you don't take a space belonging to the cottages on the lake.
I loved this point on the kawartha lakes because it is very clean. Easy access. Not crowded and you can send a day here and see so much
Great spot to park. Has access to the beautiful lake and closest access (that I could find to park) for nearby trails. The parking at this location is by FULL DAY only (or other overnight permits), but you cannot pay by hour or half day like some or the other parking lots.
They also have a bathroom that is fairly well-maintained. Nothing like a hotel bathroom of course, but it’s fairly clean, especially if you visit at the beginning of the day.
I have done several of the canoe routes through the Kawartha Highlands Park. This is mostly crown lands and a beautiful place to canoe through. For this camping there is small cost which includes free parking. Like many things, popularity is growing in the sport of canoeing and camping, so there are many people interested. I guess that at times it does get overpopulated. Back to our trip though... We headed out first thing on Saturday, Jube 1st. Used our GPS's so I am posting that info here for all to see. The parking and portage routes also as GPS coordinates. Here are the coordinates
Public boat launch: N44 44.908 W78 09.691
Portage trail from Wolf Lake to Crab Lake: N44 43.730 W78 11.885
Portage trail from Crab Lake to Wolf Lake: N44 43.656 W78 11.877
Wolf Lake is a beautiful small lake in North Kawartha which is lined with private cottages but also provides access to Kawarha Highlands Provincial Park. Its a popular spot for day trippers and those wishing to stay on Provincial Park sites on Wolf or Crab Lake which is a 140m portage away.
The paddle in is generally easy to medium as there are numerous small Canadian Sheild rock islands to shelter your trip from most major wave activity throughout your journey. The lake views are very stunning - something you would expect to see much farther North - but this just reiinforces how great the Kawathas are.
The parking lot has a composting toilet, day trip parking and a place to register your car; it is also the public boat launch with a very gradual natural beach suitable for most boat trailers.
