If you are looking for a delicious and delightful getaway to Prince Edward County, then staying with Nancy and Frank at their Wilfrid Boutique Farmhouse is a must! This warm, welcoming couple, have designed your stay with everything that you have hoped for and more. The accommodations and amenities are superior and whether you choose to take a hike on their beautiful property or sit by the outdoor fire, the ambience created is one of peace and calm. We shared a weekend with our friends there and enjoyed it so much that we will be making this our regular go to whenever we visit the county. Carol and I thank you, Frank and Nancy, for the fun, the laughs, the amazing breakfasts, and the warmest hospitality.
In a word, idyllic. The Wilfrid was amazing. Frank an Nancy were incredible hosts. I simply didn't want to leave. I'll definitely be back, hopefully sooner rather than later. I'll talk about the setting, the rooms, the food, and the hosts (in that order, albeit in no particular order).
The Wilfrid is set among incredible old-world like scenery and roads of PEC. An area teeming with natural beauty, and the incredible Sandbanks Provincial Park, it also boasts a vibrant food scene, and character. It's clean, and clear. The night skies are dark, and the stars are stunning. It's quiet too. No hum of the highway in the background. All you hear is nature. You may hear the wind, the rain, the chickens, the crickets, the frogs, or the wild turkeys. They'll lull you to sleep like the earth's own lullaby. During the day you could walk through the woods and along a beautiful old path. As you do you'll be surrounded by chattering birds, frantic chipmunks, and amazingly beautiful old stump fences (maybe that's nerdy, but you'll get it if you see them).
The rooms are spacious, luxurious, and comfortable. The decor everywhere is lovely. You don't feel bad spending time in them if it's stormy outside. Not one bit. The living room is a wonderful retreat, and wifi reaches out to the fire pit without issue, as well as to the picnic style table near the first barn. I tether too anyways, and I had no issue getting a great connection that way in the more distant parts when I needed to work. The chickens will put a smile on your face every time. There's a gym available too. Any stress just melts away. Loved the Instax & photo wall too! While here you must try the sauna. Follow Frank's instructions for the best experience. I promise you won't regret it.
The breakfast is an scrumptious event. A true feast awaits you, expertly prepared, each morning. Lots of local, fresh, and seasonal ingredients which just make you feel happy. Honest to earth mouth watering goodness. I just wish I could have eaten more. My mouth waters as I write this review thinking about it.
Frank & Nancy are some of the nicest, kindest, and funniest people I've met. They work extremely hard to make the experience memorable to each and every guest, with resounding success. They are truly wonderful hosts, their hospitality is top rate (& bilingual!).
I can't recommend The Wilfrid highly enough. I'll edit this review to add a few of the 200+ photos I took, which will hopefully show a little window into my amazing experience.
Frank and Nancy have been able to strike the perfect balance between country charm and stylish escape. There is no detail they’ve missed. Instead, you’ll find your stay infused with unexpected delights. And the breakfasts, my word! The amazing spread of freshness, from fruits to jams to eggs and whatever creations Frank dreams up will leave you wishing you had more room!
Read through the suggestions they send in advance and you’ll be assured to get the most out of your stay and the surrounding areas.
What a wonderful find! Frank and Nancy have curated the most warm and generous space. Gorgeous, comfortable and welcoming to the last The Wilfrid is an absolutely perfect place for a weekend getaway or a longer lingering stay, little surprises like a sunset watched through the barn, a drink by the firepit or a reviving evening session in the swedish sauna serenaded by chirping frogs.
Bed and Breakfast doesn't even begin to fully encompass everything Nancy and Frank have on offer at The Wilfrid... and I haven't even got started on the breakfasts! A symphony of beautiful and deliciously different dishes that make you feel so spoilt and so cared for. An experience to be cherished and shared, do yourself a favour and book yourself in!
Thanks so much Frank and Nancy, we loved meeting you and were so inspired by what you've created xx
So.. this review is far overdue, but here it is anyway.
My wife and I have been visiting PEC for a number of years and stayed at the Wilfrid in August of 2018. It was the best experience we have had… period. The name speaks for itself, as it is a Boutique Farmhouse in every sense. The interior of the house is beautifully curated to maintain the charm of the old building, while making every nook and cranny inviting to explore. As you might have seen from the website, the rooms are bright and inviting. We booked last minute and ended up staying two nights in two different rooms. Both rooms were lovely, with comfy beds and a great bathrooms to clean up in after a day of exploring the county. Being situated down a quite country road, you get all of the ambiance of the “farm life” with chickens roaming the property and a beautiful old barn just around the back. As you may have read from other reviews, Frank and Nancy as hosts are brilliant. They are both very inviting and are open to questions about what to do/see. I will also note, that the farmhouse is the perfect place to just relax if you don’t want to go or see anything. I could have spent both days just relaxing on the property! We took advantage of the outdoor barrel sauna both nights, with the incredible night sky on display while taking respite from the heat in the outdoor tub.
What can I tell you next… breakfast… of my dreams. Frank put together the most outrageously delicious breakfast both days we were there. Like some kind of mind reader he made waffles (which are my favorite), accompanied by their house maple syrup. Farm fresh eggs from their chickens, alongside fresh fruit, yogurt, bread. It is incredibly Instagramable. So… yeah.. stop reading this post… book your stay now ;)
