We had 7 amazing days at our beautifully furnished waterfront cottage. Top notch accommodations and amenities. The weather was perfect. The only thing missing to make it a 5 star rating is that the showerheads could not be adjusted and there were many remotes for the tv with no instructions.

Less than a 10 min drive from Sandbanks is this quaint village of 3 season cottages adjacent to East Lake. Cottages are privately owned but managed like a Condominium including rental services if you decide to rent your cottage. The layouts makes use of available space to a maximum with cathedral ceilings and many windows making it bright, airy, and homey. Amenities include basketball and tennis courts. A couple of pools, an activity centre, and kayaks and canoes by the dock, all included in the rental. Some cottages also allow dogs which makes it convenient for fur babies to stay with the fam. The village has a laid back beachy feel to it with winding walking paths and communal fire pits. Cottages are close together but not obtrusive and the village remains quiet even though it was full when we stayed. Really enjoyed our stay here and who knows, we might be owners here soon enough too.

This was the third time we visited Summer Village and it still looks (almost) as good as it did 4 & 5 years ago when we last visited. Great pool, basketball courts, and other various activities. (canoeing, etc). Ample fire pits for nightly s’mores and even a pizza night where wood fired pizza is custom made in a working fire truck! Kids love that! Having use of Sandbanks Provincial park passes and bypassing the huge lineups is well worth it!!

Only pet peeves involved some maintenance of the pool (tiles falling out in some areas) and the quality and cleanliness of the cottage we rented. The sofa and chairs smelled of body odour and the cottage was poorly cleaned between visitors (we found a child sock under a chair). We found some dirty/poorly cleaned dishes in the cupboard so everything got washed and sanitized. Finally, like furnishings, the wireless internet is provided by the cottage owner (not Summer Village resorts) and there’s seems to be no minimum level of service. Our internet speeds were constantly 800 kilobits....that’s 1990’s 1Meg Modem speeds so evening Netflix was impossible. Cheap. I asked Summer Village about this and was promptly told this is cottage owners issue (even though I rented from Summer Village). After talking with a few people working here, I sense some general ambivalence which is troubling given new completion that sprung up right next door to them. I think Summer village could stand to employ a professional specialized in resort management to help with the little things and interactions that make guests feel like guests.

Not sure if we’ll go back again. So giving this middle of road review.
