Always beautiful. Endless trails to explore and beach to walk in the cooler months. Great swimming in the summer. They can even accommodate dogs.
Great hidden gem when you want to get away from the crowds at dunes and sandbank
Can't wait to go again - perfect spot for a couple with a dog 👌 it's not the biggest beach but still awesome!
I enjoyed this Beach went this past weekend with my family, beach was clean, it wasn’t busy, felt like i was in the tropics! Only thing we went on a windy day so the tide was high and the wind was getting to us , other than that beautiful clean clear waters . Its Not deep for a few meters out. Really glad i went , this will become our go to beach. I was told there was a calmer side called “The Bay” but my husband and i stayed at the lake side because it was empty, and we had a good stretch of the beach all to ourselves!! Felt calming and social distancing wasn’t a problem.
A fine consolation prize if Sandbanks is full, which it was today. About 20% of the size of the main Sandbanks beach. North Beach is a long thin line of land surrounded by water on both sides. You have a choice of the breezy lake-facing beach (mix of pebbles and sand), or the more sheltered inner lake with warmer water (all sand). Not as much shade available as Sandbanks. Same sort of sand bars as Sandbanks out in the water on both sides, though on the lake side you have to walk over a painful row of rocks to get into the water. The sand bars keep the water near the shore warmer for kids to sit and splash about. Unlike Sandbanks, there is a little snack bar with hot dogs, burgers, fries, and ice cream etc. The salted caramel ice cream from Reid's Dairy was yummy! The outhouses are really stinky and very poorly cleaned, and ran out of water and soap, and toilet paper in some cases. Compare that to very clean washrooms at Sandbanks with running water and electricity. The change houses were boarded up in most cases. On both side, there were boaters driving at high speeds, too close to the swimmers for my comfort. There is only one ticket line for cars to enter the park, so we had to wait 20 minutes in a line of cars. Today was probably the busiest day of the year, though, so on other days it might be better.
