I stayed at the Bark Guesthouse for two nights. The moment I walked in I knew this place was built with love and a true desire to make guests comfortable. The first thing that catches your eye is the attention to detail and how well put together the guesthouse is. It offers everything you need and is beautiful. I loved sitting out on the large balcony at night with clear view of the stars. A perfect place to share a glass of wine or a coffee. The dog artwork was adorable. The real life dogs on the property ... OMG I wanted to take them home. Mike and Susan the hosts are the nicest most accommodating people. It’s very easy to see why they have been successful since opening this summer. This place is a dream. The location is fantastic as well it was easy to get to and a great home place for exploring the County.
Also just a note we checked out early but met up with someone at the property so we sat outside the main property for bit and saw first hand how much diligence and work goes into making sure the place is clean and safe for future guests. It took hours and was very encouraging to see how they followed protocol. I would feel very safe staying here.
Also we visited the Bark Woodshop which is right next door. This is a wood lovers dream destination and it is really difficult to decide which pieces to buy as they are all beautiful and again made with love and attention. I couldn’t take my eyes off the finished pieces in the store showroom and it’s really nice that you are able to see into the workshop where these creations are made. I had seen some of the work on-line but they are even more beautiful in person. I can’t wait to contract some of the pieces for work events or gifts they are absolutely precious.
Thank you Mike and Susan for creating a welcoming place for those of us visiting the County. Can’t wait to return.
My husband and I received one of the Bark Woodshop's end grain cutting boards as a gift several years ago (when it was just a hobby) and it is our favourite piece in our kitchen. We use it every day and it still looks beautiful. Mike is a master at his craft. His attention to detail and use of only high quality wood makes these cutting boards one of a kind. My husband and I have since bought several for wedding and business gifts. I highly, highly recommend visiting this shop on your way through Prince Edward County. You won't be disappointed.
We stumbled on this charming place on our way to the Closson area wineries, and I'm so happy that we did! One of the owners was in the shop and was delightful as she told us about their operation. Also very knowledgeable about the products and the various woods used to make them.
There weren't a ton of products on display, although we did arrive at 5:30pm and were told that they'd had a busy day, so if you arrive earlier you might see more selection. But despite that, what they had on display was beautiful! Really nice cheese boards, cutting boards, pizza peels, and other wood products. Very nice variety of shapes and sizes, and different kinds of woods.
The prices were abundantly fair, and definitely affordable given that they were all made right there on the property, by hand. We bought an $80 serving board which I probably would have expected to pay almost twice the price for in Toronto.
I happily recommend visiting Bark in between winery stops!
