My daughter just graduated from this school after attending 4 years. Our experience with the school was very positive overall in terms of staff. I came from way out of district and they took a risk on me and accommodated my needs and enrolled my daughter. They do have a breakfast program for the kids that makes sure that the kids can get a good solid meal before school if need be. The gym is old and has low ceilings and by today's standards would be a weak point for sure. This was worked around quite easily by using nearby (across the street) community facilities. On the bright side this teaches kids to be resourceful and to be a part of the community.
I can first hand vouch that Mr. Petrany, Mr. Henderson, Miss. Smith, Mr. Young and the principle Miss Fox all work very hard to try and make Central a good place for the kids. Nothing is perfect and mistakes happen but when I raised my concerns and communicated with the staff my concerns were addressed each time. In almost every case it was a communication breakdown.
To come here and give a school a one star rating based on one word "Old" is an insult to all the hard work that these PEOPLE put into teaching the kids in my community. A school is made up of people not walls. Just like a community is not made with buildings. It is made with words, trust and hard work. I just felt compelled to give a reasonable review for this school with some actual content. Central is a solid contribution to Bowmanville.
As a student from a while ago of this school, I can say this school is awesome! It does indeed have after school activity's, great and friendly teachers, and even though it has an old background does not mean you'd except old conditions. Also, it gave me a bonus in history due to its background and knowing where everything was, picturing its military history, and old Canada.
Nice historic school!
