I did the ‘Z’ endorsement at DC at the end of February and began the in-class ‘A’ training March 9 - both well done and both done with Mike.
Though the circumstances were less than favourable when Covid hit, I can’t complain about the way it was handled. The instructors, especially Mike worked hard during this time with what they had to bring everything together and finish anything online that we didn’t finish in the classroom.
We began driving lessons again at the beginning of August when the instructors were given the go-ahead. A lot of equipment in male dominant industries is made for the big boys. As a smaller female(5’4), I drove all of the trucks and found that I fit best and was most comfortable in two out of four trucks, so there are options if you’re smaller - male or female.
I didn’t have any trucking experience, had never driven a manual transmission in my life and drive a little Chevy Spark, so believe me when I say that there is a huge difference between the first and last lesson if you follow instructions, work hard for it and if it’s for you.
The instructors are awesome! I was definitely pushed to do more than I thought I could at times, especially in the beginning. They all are very supportive and each had different things to offer to the training.
Kevin taught me to be the most thorough in PTI for a safer road and explains in detail why you’re doing what you’re doing in any given task. He also effortlessly put me the most at ease during lessons behind the wheel, which allows for a better performance. Glen quizzed me more early on in PTI, which forced me to retain more of what I was being taught, making my PTI more efficient. In lessons, he gave me pointers to make my shifting smoother and more efficient and to be more aware of my surroundings. Adam taught me more often in the beginning lessons, pushing me, but also allowing me to be where I needed at times. He also put me most at ease for my road test. He was basically the foundation for my training and a staple throughout. He helped me drastically improve my 90 degree backing technique each backing lesson and challenged me to try “blindside” backing as well.
If you’re looking for the best place to get your AZ license, this is the place.
I got my AZ licence from this College and highly recommend this institute. Coming from non-trucking background with zero knowledge, all the instructors made my whole learning experience very easy and comfortable. I have reviewed all the colleges in whole Ontario myself and this one is one stop for any one looking to kick start their career in Trucking Industry.
I can't thank the teachers and staff at Durham college enough for helping change the course of my life. After a horrible experience attending a highly rated truck driving "school," I was ready to give up. A friend suggested Durham college, and after speaking to Marie Sullivan, I knew it was the right place to attend.
The professionalism and teaching at this school blew me away. Class room days were fun and informative, while driving days were unbelievalbly thorough and productive. We would spend hours a day driving and backing up, something which is not offered at private driving schools. The excellent teaching gave me the tools to get my dream driving job at a landscaping company moving heavy equipment around on a flat bed, and hauling dirt in the busy construction season. This is a position usually not available without years of experience but the training at Durham is so good that I was able to drive and shift at the level required.
If you are thinking about getting your trucking license, Durham College is hands down the best choice. The teachers and staff are the best at their job and are even better people who truly care about your life and want you to succeed. Thank you again to Mike, Adam, Kevin, Don, Marie, and Susie, along with the rest of the staff, for all your help.
Recently took the Z endorsement course and I am currently taking the A license course and I 100% recommend this truck driving school. All the trucks are pretty modern and in great condition the instructors have decades of experience between them all and are super friendly, professional and clam in the trucks. I find myself looking forward to every lesson whether it's on the road or in the classroom. Thank you for everything !
Durham College is one of the best college in Toronto (ON) for the Professional Truck Driver training course (AZ). I would like to thank you course instructors (Don, Mike, Adam, Kevin) as they provides the training in a very enthusiastic way. I really enjoyed the course as it was a right mixture of theory (in class sessions) and driving classes. Instructors give lots of opportunities to ask questions and talk about real job/life experience during training. I am very grateful to have all of you as mentor and appreciate your efforts. Thank you very much.
I can highly recommend Durham College for the Professional Truck Driver Course (AZ). Thank you for a great course as it was very interesting, useful, informative and excellently delivered!!
