Most of the replies are likely disgruntled tenants. This co-op is very clean, and the management is fair so long as you take good care of your property, and unit. Our unit is very nice, clean, and we have kept it well maintained. This co-op is safe, and the rent is VERY reasonable. For example, a 3 bedroom townhouse with a front and backyard is $1100 with water and cable paid for in 2020 - Can't beat that price. You also have the option to put an air conditioner in, as long as you're in good standing with the board, and are a responsible tenant. That's up to the board to decide.
As far as 'upgrades' - It should be a given that you cannot renovate anything major in your unit, as you're only renting it. However, they're very good at replacing anything that's broken etc. You can paint your unit and update minor things in your unit. Ours looks great inside. A home is what YOU make it :)
We are lucky and have good neighbours, however, you can't pick who you live beside, as with any rental or home - Luck of the draw, I guess.
