Beautiful cemetery perched on a high bluff above a bend in 16 Mile Creek. It contains the graves of some of Oakville's oldest residents of European descent (thus the"pioneer" title). It has the Chisholm family graves and many others. It is very close to the QEW so there is considerable vehicle noise. It seems strange to me that there isn't an interpretive sign or something to explain the significance of the cemetery, or how it got to be where it is. I asked about it when we visited the Oakville Historical Society on Family Day and they didn't have too much to say about it either.. One of them commented that this is not the original location of the older graves. They said that they were moved from another location. I don't know if or when that might have happened, or why. Mysterious cemetery with local historical significance. It is always open to pedestrians. Right next to pedestrian path that goes under the QEW to connect with 6th Line.
I love this quiet spot in our busy city. Lots of places to sit and reflect
