It's a historic site. The building was built in 1903-4 as the Master Mechanic and Stores Department (office and supplies) for the Grand Trunk Railway. It is the only rail equipment servicing building remaining on the waterfront. Its location is a focal point on the south shore of Kempenfelt Bay. It's called Southshore Community Centre now. It contains a information Center, public washroom and a event hall. There is a metered parking lot. It's free to local people.

I had the honor of hosting my wedding here and may I say, as difficult as it may have been to outsource decorations and table plating, etc. It was worth every hassle we had. The view of the hall with the size, was absolutely perfect. We hosted a fairytale wedding and Southshore gave us effortless contact, a handful of support and nothing but the best assistance. Ian and Samantha from the city of Barrie were fantastic to work with. Thank you city of Barrie for having the Southshore available for weddings. My fairytale wedding came true.
