I bought a bass from Tim, and it turned out to be a wonderful experience. He's patient, answering all my questions, and was willing to share any number of videos w/ me (so I may hear how his build sounds). It sounds great - crispy highend with clear/clean lows. The color and shape are pretty. And, perhaps most importantly, the thing plays smoothly (good action and impeccable fretwork).
I came across Tim and Backline Guitars while browsing reverb.com. I thought his guitars looked cool and sounded great in his videos. Being in the market for a guitar I decided to give Tim a call.
Easily the best guitar decision of my life. I was immediately taken with his easy going attitude and obvious passion for building guitars. I had as million questions and suggestions for my TR Classic - Tim was there through the whole building process. Woods, neck profile, pickups, paint, weight, stainless steel frets.... Everything accounted for and communicated to me. Couldn't have asked for a better experience.
I've played Gibson custom shop, fender custom shop, Suhr among others. Backline is right up there or better as far as I'm concerned. Frets, neck, tone.. all it, impeccably finished. Like glass. Such a fast and responsive guitar. I expected the TR Classic to be tele like, but it's its own animal. piano like tones, twangy low end, nice definition. Just such a great inspiring guitar to play.
Check Backline Guitars out.
I just got this guitar in the mail from Tim at BackLine Guitars today and I can't put it down. I've had my eye on it for a while now and I couldn't be happier about it. The action is buttery smooth, the controls are minimal (which I like), all of the hardware is player-friendly and the MJS Black Earth pickup screams. This one, "The Ronan," was built for heavy stuff. Would absolutely recommend.
I had Tim setup some guitars that had been sitting in a closet for a while. He made some suggestions to replace some worn parts on a vintage Gibson, and made some much needed adjustments on a Strat. Now they play better than I remember. Thanks Tim!
Tim the founder of Backline Guitars makes very high quality guitars! Very comparable to other big name brands such as Gibson and Fender etc.
I had the honour of playing a few Backlines a while back and the instant I touched them it brought a smile to my face; right then and there I knew that it was a nice guitar. The body styles are comfortable and the neck profile is like BUTTER, a nice shredder neck for anyone who likes to shred!
I am fascinated by the time and effort Tim puts in to his projects to ensure the quality of each instrument. If you're looking for something unique definitely get your hands on a Backline!
