They have a good selection if you are an in need of quality materials, and they are not a big box store. But I got the impression that they expect a certain type of customer. If so that is really too bad.

Small, local art supplies shop and gallery. They don't have huge stock but they do have a suprising variety of art supplies. You need to take your time to look. The staff are nice and friendly.
Whenever I am in Thunder Bay I have to pop in to The Painted Turtle. It is a mixture of gallery and art supply store. The supplies are great quality, good brands and decent selection for the size of store. The gallery features local artists at prices that are a steal. You get great art that represents the area. The wonderful staff are willing to chat about the supplies and their work which also hangs in the gallery section. For any artist, this is a 'must go'.
