My wife has suffered with depression and anxiety for over 30 years. During that time, these ailments were managed with various medications - however in early 2021, she began to have more severe difficulty, and was diagnosed with Treatment Resistant Depression. Over the next 18 months, her psychiatrist tried many different combinations of new medications to assist her, but nothing worked. She had regular appointments with a psychologist, participated in CBT groups, and underwent 17 sessions of ECT - all with no success. Last summer (2022), a friend suggested ketamine, and after a fair amount of research, we felt that Breakthrough Therapies and Dr. DeCunha were the right fit for my wife, who subsequently has had nine Ketamine Psychotherapy Sessions at the clinic. The sessions are unlike any treatment she has experienced before – either with therapists or medication. Dr. DeCunha’s approach is thorough, thoughtful, compassionate, encouraging and intuitive. A session lasts around three to four hours, and includes the actual therapy as well as the preparation time and the post-therapy quiet meditative period. Dr. DeCunha remains with the patient throughout the sessions, which have allowed my wife to calmly and gradually delve into the recesses of her memory – recalling many experiences and events that she had forgotten. Upon these recollections, she has – with Dr. DeCunha’s guidance – realized that some of these long-ago interactions and events were significant in both the shaping of who she is, and are underlying factors in some of her anxiety and depression. While she still has to wrestle with the ailments, the Ketamine Psychotherapy with Dr. DeCunha has given her tools and knowledge of a new way to think about, and cope with her anxiety and depression. We are 100% impressed with Dr. DeCunha and her well-run, peaceful clinic – which is a hidden oasis in the middle of a big city. Breakthrough Therapies has our full endorsement for anyone looking for help in dealing with depression and / or anxiety.
