This is a great place to learn martial arts. They specialize in Shotokan Karate. Kancho Okuyama makes the classes interesting and practical. There are few instructors like him in the country. If you are anywhere close to this facility you should drop in and join. Not only will you learn how to defend yourself and get in great physical condition but you will become a person of great integrity and confidence.
Traditional Karate taught by a master. I have been going for over a year and have enjoyed many learnings from Kancho and the rest of the wonderful group of people who frequent this dojo. I highly recommend. All three of my children attend as well.
A great school for traditional karate. Great programs for kids and adults
One of , if not the best Shotokan Karate schools. I joined when I was 16 years old (now 31) and received my black belt in 2007 from this school when it was back in the Danforth location.
Ever since, Ive been an on and off student there and never regretted joining .
Kancho Okuyama demands dedication, patience and resilience from his students.
He is a great master and humbles you very quickly.
I haven't been back for some time though unfortunately (it's been 2 years) and this I do regret.
This place is the real deal.
I was looking for somewhere to continue training whilst staying in Toronto for a few weeks. This dojo came recommended through the karate nerds group on facebook. I got a response quickly from the dojo on training times and a welcoming note to come along. Class sizes are good with a good mix of experienced black belts and people on their karate journey. everyone was pleasant and welcoming. The training was focused and a good mix of kata, kihon and kumite. A very knowledgable, relaxed and happy sensei in Kancho. Enjoyed every minute and will return when i visit again.
