Kehilla is a fabulous organization! A #1 staff! They help so many, in need.

These people really care; and they are organized for success!

Yes, I gave it 4 stars, not 5.
I live in that building, it's OK, but it's not great. The owners, a company called Kehilla, manage the building on behalf of the city, the province and the feds. The grounds are kept in OK shape, just OK shape. They could have been, and would continue to be, managed properly with input from the right people, but that was allowed to go by the wayside just a few years into the life of the building.
This building was built as a housing co-op. It ought to still be running as a co-op, except that some people who should have known better decided to abandon the concept of committees, starting with the gardening committee. It was a short-sighted and, frankly, a bigoted move begun by a couple who found it intolerable to live beside someone who was half Romany. That couple still lives there! I don't know how, or why, I still manage to live there, as they so hated my 1/2 Romany best friend/neighbour, but I do still live there, unimpeded by those bigoted b*****s, but I do.
To the best if my knowledge, this couple emigrated to Canada after the failed Hungarian Revolution, but have somehow managed to accumulate enough wealth, on his salary as a school bus driver, to live more than comfortably, and to continue to pay what I sincerely hope is market rent (that would be well over $1200/month by now) on that single salary.
But, that's neither here nor there. The building itself is kept clean by a husband and wife who happen to live across the hall from me. He does the more minor repairs, with master tradespersons coming in to do the more extensive ones. She works in the management office, tending to all kinds of things, from logging cheques coming in to escorting master tradespersons to their relevant spots in the building. Yes, he does that, too. It simply depends on who is available first.
I'm physically disabled, and they live across the hall from me. The first couple of times after they moved in, I got a knock on my door whenever I used my grill pan. She would run across the hall, knock on my door and ask if everything was OK. I would assure her that, yes, everything was OK, I was just using my grill pan.
It's a true story. Every word of it is true.
