2020 UPDATE to "THE WORSE NEWS"
The dispensing of the melatonin has been handed over to another staff member. They are friendly, reply promptly (within a few hours), and ship the melatonin out within a day.
~~~~~
This review is for the melatonin dispensing portion of the clinic’s ‘service’.
THE GOOD NEWS: If you take the DLMO test and it’s found that you have low melatonin levels, Dr Shapiro gives an open-ended prescription for medical grade melatonin. This melatonin (imported from the UK) is far superior to the OTC varieties.
THE BAD NEWS: It costs $3.30 per pill, or $1200 per year. It is not covered by OHIP, but you can claim it as a medical expense in your tax return.
THE WORSE NEWS: Since 2017, the dispensing of the melatonin has been handed over to one person who does not seem particularly interested in actually doing this job.
They work at the main 790 Bay location 1 day per week, and usually for only 6 hours or so (from 8-2ish). And they insist they are the only person that can be trusted to hold the melatonin for pick-up after you’ve paid for it.
So be prepared to go without unless you’re free that same 15% of the work week the melatonin-dispenser-in-chief is available.
My experience here was OK.
Male overnight staff had zero personality made me feel like I was annoying him. Female staff that worked with me was stoic at first but she warmed up and ended up being professional and decent. The room was ok, bed was comfortable for what it was. No evidence of bugs like others have suggested. The room WAS however very very dusty. I actually wiped down the bed head because i do not like dust. They really should have a better cleaning situation in that place. I had no problem falling asleep which was good and got a pleasant "good morning" from my staff member when it was time to wake up. Although i think she woke me up at 6am which was earlier than I had anticipated. Which was fine as i did not feel as though i was being rushed out of the room.
