Seven Oaks

And I will alter my review for the final time, which I've taken too long to do.... leaving all my former reviews below. At our discharge meeting with the family, Seven Oaks relented and let my mom stay an extra week or so until the house was ready. We were grateful to them for that. And as my mom has now been home for several weeks, my dad acknowledges that she could be hard to settle at bedtime. These are not easy jobs, caring for our elderly parents, to be sure. So, given that many of the staff were good and the place clean and comfortable, 3 stars again!

Well, I have to edit my earlier review once again (which I will leave below) and I’m actually hugely disappointed to say that JM was right and I was wrong.

My parents were informed today that Mom will be sent home 2 weeks+ earlier than expected - because she complained about rough bedtime treatment by a few of the PSWs (most of whom she likes, but a few were so rough they hurt her mending hip.)

My Dad is renovating the house for her wheelchair but it won’t be ready for the new date. He’s been told that’s his problem.

So those who complained the PSWs can be awful to patients and get away with it - I guess you were right. It’s unfortunate because Seven Oaks is quite lovely and the physiotherapists are both very good, according to my parents. Shame that the home protects the PSWs from any complaints and evicts the convalescent residents who complain. (Though I’ve heard the food is also dreadful.)

This is my former review: I am adding to my earlier review in response to JM, below: I’m not sure what axe you are grinding, JM, but as you’re not even willing to use your full name or to explain how you have “10 years experience with this place” yet you “wouldn’t put a dog there,” I’d suggest others can safely ignore what you’re saying.

Mom has now been there close to 2 weeks, in a convalescent bed, as she recovers from surgery. Dad visits for hours each day. I was there today and queried Mom again about her care. She loves her physiotherapists in particular and says all the staff have been responsive and kind. She’s no shrinking violet and quite openly told us a few weeks ago when she thought her hospital nurses were too rough.

I only write again because I fear other families considering Seven Oaks would be frightened off by these strange reviews, as they concerned us. I can’t speak for what it may once have been like. I can only say that our experience with the convalescent care and all the staff has been top notch. Again, go visit for yourself and compare to the others. Anonymous troll types are not worth paying much heed.

My original review: Mom has been here just under a week, recovering from emergency surgery after breaking her hip, and our experience has been absolutely first rate. Staff have been welcoming and kind, food, with choices at each meal, has been good and plentiful. The rooms are clean. There are places to gather with visitors, including a large, open and bright atrium, an auditorium and even a small pub open a couple times a week. Mom had her hair cut soon after she moved in and was thrilled with it. We saw 3 homes before choosing this one and the entire family, including Mom, are thrilled we got into this one. We were a little concerned by the negative reviews - no need to be. The place is great.

Food is good especially when you are coming from the hospital for their CCP.
