Back in the day this facility met the needs of the community. Not sure of this anymore. Parking and noise issues seem to be prevalent now. Perhaps a facility outside the city parameter would better serve the community.
Great place to catch a ball game. Nice stadium, engaged fans.
David E. Hastings Stadium, located in Guelph, ON Canada is home to the Guelph Royals of the independent ICBL, (Intercounty Baseball League). It is named in honor of a former player, city mayor, and generous moral and financial supporter of local baseball. The structure, itself, is reasonably comfortable and utilitarian covered grandstand set within a picturesque backdrop. However, it has little of the beauty, quaintness, and charm of the wooden edifice that it replaced, the lamented Exhibition (Park) Stadium. In order to paint a representative picture, it was not unlike Abner Doubleday Field in Cooperstown, NY, named for the putative founder of the sport. The warm and wise winds of architectural conservancy were not blowing strong enough in my hometown to save it, and in a cynical and shortsighted City Hall decision, the beloved stadium and repository of many youthful memories, including mine, was demolished.
