This place is incredible. They have a well-thought out program that they are constantly "tweaking" (hahah) based on feedback to continue to improve it all the time. For those who are complaining about the group-treatment aspect, this is the standard of care. I'm sure you have all had nindiciual counselling and how did that work for you? Group therapy is known to be more effective for addiction because you "can't con a con". In the cases where more individual counselling was needed, I saw it happen several times with my co- patients and even with myself. The staff are amazing- they are well trained and passionate about the work they do. Kim is an incredible counsellor and she will not let you get away with ANYTHING and as much as you might not like it, that's what you need. Shout-outs to other amazing staff including Taylor, Andrew, Angela, Jessica (Both of them!) and Dr. Ranger. Dr. Weiss is in charge and he is an incredibly caring and compassionate professional. The program is busy for sure but you are only there for 5 weeks. If you go in with the mindset that they have to fix you, then definitely you are going to have a rotten time. All they can do is give you the tools and the rest is up to you. But that they do that and more, and it is all happening in a wonderful environment. On a practical notes, the rooms are lovely, the grounds are amazing for walking and exploring, the food is amazing (prepare to going 7 pounds) and the recreational activities are fantastic- pottery, horticulture, yes horticulture! Even when I left, the staff were training to be able to bring new offerings which I believe is going to be drumming (as an exercise like the Japanese drumming). It's an example of how they are constantly working towards making the program better and more interesting for the patients. I didn't know a single patient who didn't think this was the best facility out there (And many of them had been to many places) so I don't know where these one-star reviewers are coming from. But if you are using right now and your life is out of control, just phone them and sign up and get yourself in there. They will save your life if you let them!
Homewood saved my life. You get what you put into these prograns and I was ready and willing to make a change. I found the staff (for the most part) wonderful. True, the nurses do not push you to programming but again, it's ultimately up to you. What are you hoping to get from this place? I took every chance I could because I finally realized my life was worth it. Mental health and Addiction is a nasty thing. I wish everyone the best of luck with their journey.
Homewood saved my life. I spent 5 months here. Good health care is hit and miss. I was lucky to have an amazing team. I've been to many hospitals and find that what you put in is what you get out. I worked so hard and my team knew and saw that. So they worked just as hard for me. As a patient I have to advocate for myself and push for the treatment I want.
