Chinese food, wife could eat this every day. We come weekly, for take out order. You figure we come for pick up quite often, and receipt is between 50 to 70$, that we would get more than three fortune cookies!!
Food & service were good. A bit disappointed that the dessert in the Table d'Hote only consisted of a fortune cookie.
We went again this year. The same holds true. The food was delicious. The fortune cookie didn't even contain a fortune this time.
Very good food ar very good price. You get so much food that left overs last you 2 more meals. Highly recommend this place.😁👍
As we were staying at the Hotel Principal and this restaurant is part of it, we decided to leave the car parked and have Chinese food for dinner. We ordered selection #5 for two people. It came with 4 small spring rolls, fried wonton, breaded chicken with lemon sauce, battered shrimp, General Tao chicken, wonton soup, mixed vegetables. There was plenty for two people and thankfully our room has a fridge and a microwave so we could enjoy the leftovers the next day. The food was your typical Chinese food taste. The General Tao chicken was not spicy as I'm accustomed to. The spring rolls had a ginger plum sauce. The shrimp came with a somewhat Thai sauce. The chicken for the lemon chicken seemed to be two breasts battered and cut into manageable pieces. It's what I call "safe" food to simply enjoy and fill the tummies. The cost before taxes for the meal for two was $40.00 so quite economical. We only had water so no further to add to the tab. Food was quickly served and service was attentive. It's a homey decor place with tables and booths. For the price and selection of food, it's good as a meal.
Rented a room at the Hotel Le Principal (Granby), where this restaurant is attached. Considering we'd get a 10% discount (as hotel guests) and the restaurant is right there in the hotel lobby (proximity), we thought we'd try it out.
The service was SO freaking slow. Considering there were like only one or two other guests, this should not be. Once we got the waitresses attention, we ordered from the daily specials, which comes with a soup. Waitress was gone without even asking us which soup we wanted/preferred? Or if we wanted something to drink. Really odd. Luckily for us, we wanted Won Ton, which is what she brought.
I had General Tao, which was decent. Not great, but not bad either. My girlfriend and the kids got some chicken/beef plate (forgot the name). Their plate was also ok (taste) I guess, but it was obvious the chicken was cooked from frozen food.
For desert, we wanted to try the fried banana, which turned out into a waiting adventure. After about 15 minutes, we saw some Chinese guy leave and come back to the restaurant with a few bananas in his hands. So we told the waitress we didn't want to wait and cancel the banana order. She assured us those were NOT our bananas and that our order was "cooking" and ready in 2 minutes. We finally got the friend bananas with ice cream about 10 minutes later. Was ok, I guess.
The waitress came back with the credit card machine. Told us the price and wanted us to pay. But... where's the bill? Oh, the machine takes too long to print it out. Just pay and I'll bring it to you later. What? This sounds backwards, no? But anyway, we just wanted to get out of there, so I paid and tallied things up in my head afterwards.
I confronted the waitress and asked her why we didn't get our 10% discount as hotel guests? She said, she did add it but sometimes it doesn't show up. Whatever that meant? So after some number crunching, she finally gave me back some $5 and change, to "correct" for the missing discount.
Unless you are in a real bind and tight for time, I wouldn't recommend. There are plenty of restaurants 10 minute walk in every direction. Some actually look really good and tasty.
