Childhood is that wonderful time
where you discover how strange
the world truly is
all in the space
of three recesses a day.

We were drawn together
by the everyday weirdness,
embraced the chaos
without a second thought.
It was the law
of the jungle-gym.

I witnessed a world war
beside the swing sets,
I became a king
of chicken fighting,
and I mastered the art
of make-believe.

And between Pokemon battles
and Lunchables feasts,
we found time to enjoy simple things:
decapitating dandelions,
making culinary delights
from dirt and sticks
or just digging a hole in the sand
all the way to the clay.
