Wood Buffalo Construction Group

I was referred wood buffalo construction from a friend who does large commercial work with them. Much larger than my doors and trim for a basement. I've been skeptical of contractors as I've been burnt before and never know if I'm getting the best price for quality of work.

I can certainly assure you that Fred, at wood buffalo construction, will be the best call you make with regards to your contracting needs. Not only was his price completely fair, he made sure it was done to our satisfaction and didnt hesitate to come back and touch up every last detail before getting final payment which is much different than other contractors I've dealt with. Other contractors finish the work and you'd be chasing them to come back and fix anything while they demand final payment. Not Fred at wood buffalo construction.

All that aside I simply appreciate the communication about when he's going to be working, what his time frame and expectations are and finally not assuming what to do. We actually ran short on trim and instead of doing something and having to fix it later he communicated with me and we came to a resolution that worked for both of us without it costing me any more. Simply phenomenal and I couldn't be more appreciative of the work and definitely will be using wood buffalo again in the future.

I truly have only positive words to say about Fred and his team. Our home was bought brand new with an unfinished basement. We met with several general contractors to finish the basement, and to replace the existing carpeting on the top floor with hardwood. Fred was the only one who provided a detailed cost analysis with absolutely nothing hidden and came well within budget. And he kept to it throughout the entire project. If I were about to make a decision that would cost me more he would make it very clear prior to following through about the cost. There were zero surprises. Timing wise Fred always came out of time. It is rare to find a contractor who had subcontractors available who could immediately start work and to complete work in a timely fashion. There was never a point where I felt that our house/projects were abandoned. There was always work being done and Fred was always accessible and available if I had any questions. We had hardwood flooring installed in our top floor. This involved removing the baseboards, removing the carpet, installing the hardwood, and reattaching the baseboards and repainting them and refinishing any damage which was minimal. They also completed hardwood flooring of the stairs which is a challenge on its own. This was truly an impressive feat as I was told by others that the baseboards would have to be completely renewed and was discouraged from installing the hardwood. They did this in the middle of us moving in with two young children. Our floors look fantastic and appears as though the house was bought with those floors. The basement remodel was delayed only by the city of Edmonton providing a permit. Fred knew exactly what I wanted in the basement when I described it and helped tremendously with the design and the function. Our basement was made to be an 'in-law' suite with a small kitchenette, tv entertainment center with cabinets, and two bedrooms. The finishings were similar to the rest of the house. All other decisions about flooring, cabinetry etc Fred had various suppliers he was connected to and were extremely easy to work with. He made the decision process quite easy and painless. His subcontractors were fantastic. All of them were helpful, professional, timely, and knowledgeable. Fred also installed these fantastic barn-doors for our mudroom that he helped me design and installed cabinets and a hanging rod for our laundry room to make it a more functional space. The home was bought brand-new but there were various problems that appeared upon our move-in and Fred was extremely helpful and though not required to do so would point out various real deficiencies that we would have otherwise no known were subsequently dealt with. Following the finished work in our house Fred has still been very valuable and helpful in providing his contacts for other trades needed for our house (AC, fencing etc). I had the best experience with wood buffalo construction and I feel very fortunate to have had such a positive experience. I would highly recommend them for any renovation small or large.
