Love the history.
I had the pleasure of driving the Victoria Trail yesterday. I had no idea this integral part of Alberta's history existed. Although the main centres were closed due to the season (winter), I will definitely return when they open and can hardly wait. There is something for everyone here and a must see.
It's set in a nice location and the history is important, but really it's just two buildings that are no different than what you'd find at Ukrainian Village or Fort Edmonton.
An excellent site to visit to learn more about the history of how this part of Alberta came to be. Take the tour! It's the best way of learning about the people who lived here. The plaques, while helpful don't tell the whole story. The site interpretive guides are the best! The whole of the Victoria trail area are worthy of at least a day but, make it two. The County of Smoky Lake and the Province of Alberta are to be commended for the work they've done to preserve this site and, others in the Victoria trail area, and to promote their value in Alberta's history. While the above have done much for this area, it is the hard work of Victoria Home Guard Historical Society volunteers that have done much of the heavy lifting to make this area a "must see" for those interested in Alberta's history .
