The camp sites are large, full of trees thus lots of privacy. Even busy you feel alone and it is quiet. I was there during the labor long weekend and though full I felt I had my own privacy.
Lots to do around here, excellent spot for hikers. The river is accessible and the mountains are spectacular.
I discovered a little gem, next time I'll come here instead of Kananaskis.
Highly recommend.
Beautiful campground in the heart of Kananaskis. Very near beautiful landmarks such as Forgetmenot Pond, Nihahi Ridge, and the Elbow River.
We booked a walk-in tent site and were suprised by the steep hill from the parking lot up to our site. It was manageable, but next time we'll probably stick to the drive-in sites.
No check-in required at McLean Creek store - just print your reservation and bring it with you. There is a campsite employee who drops off firewood for $10/bundle.
You can't beat this campground for walkability. It's well maintained, right by the river, several hiking trails and great day trips. I was completely comfortable letting the kids bike around our loop. Slight disadvantages- it's usually full/busy and we stayed in D loop walk in site 69 which was almost adjoining the next door tent site. I prefer a bit more room. This didn't distract from the amazing location, clean outhouses and we'll maintained sites.
The Little Elbow camp ground was amazing, it's a walk in shop you park and then you walk up. It's right by the river, and had great trails all around. Forgetmenot Pond is very close and great for kayaking and day use.
Fantastic campground! Very scenic views and a variety of hiking trails. Sites are spacious and fairly flat. Some sites are close together, so pay attention to the map when reserving if you like your privacy. The Elbow river flows alongside camping loop E (where we stayed) and is filled with crystal clear blue mountain water. Forget me not Pond is about a 20 min to half hour walk from the campground. Plenty of paths to take you down there if you prefer that over walking on the road. Another beautiful sight with areas to launch kayaks, canoes, etc. Lots of folks there for day use (picnics, playing in the lake, etc) as well as campers. Did not see any bears, but brought bear spray with us everywhere just in case. FYI: Macleans Creek Campers Centre is a small convenience store about a 15 min drive from the campground. We will definitely be back!
