Essentially abandoned. The outhouse is permanently closed, the road in has seen better days, the gravel parking lot is starting to be reclaimed by grass and bushes, etc. It is, however, still accessible for most vehicles except for ones with ~3" or lower ground clearance. This makes it a good spot to escape from the crowds, and the semi-abandoned state gives it a cool character.
Minimal facilities and not much active maintenance since the gorge Creek Rd was de activated
Beautiful Kananaskis country (K-Country) in Alberta within 40 min drive from Calgary. My wife and I went to do some birding and found a Robin, Chikadees, and a Grey Backed Woodpecker. There are two trails here, you can take the main trail right behind the Texas gate by the bridge, after about 3km we ended up in a beautiful meadow/pasture that had been pounded to crap by grazing cows, but still. Or you can do a bit of trailblazing and try Ware Creek trail on the east end of the "parking" lot. Looks like the area was flooded during the 2013 floods and hasn't recovered or been repaired so you have to keep an eye out to stay on the trail. Once you get past the small creek (fording was easy) the trail ends up above the flood damage.
