We had a surprisingly sub-par brunch yesterday. It started with a glass of Grenache wine from Spain that had obviously been opened days earlier and/or stored improperly and was starting to oxidize. I sent it back, and the waitress returned saying it was fine but would I like something else? She recommended a Sangiovese that came so warm we asked for ice. It was drinkable but not very good. I ordered the scrambled eggs on sour dough with smoked cod. There was so little fish, you almost couldn’t detect it. The potatoes were cooked well but very salty. The scrambled eggs were cooked perfectly. Another in our party had the Eggs Benedict with a leek fondue that was invisible. Eggs were perfect, though. Other positive about the meal, in addition to delicious eggs, was the setting. We were seated under a tent outside which enhanced the restaurant’s capacity while allowing for lots of distance between tables and reminding you that Deane House would be a lovely venue for a small wedding reception. The stroll to the front door of the restaurant through the gorgeous perennial garden deserves note. Deane House, and it’s wonderful sister River Cafe, are two of Calgary’s best restaurants, and I hope yesterday’s meal was an anomaly that can be chalked up to the disruption of Covid.
Patio during social distancing is the way to go. Friendly service. Only 5 entrees to choose from but lots of appetizer choices. Everything was delicious.
Discovered this only recently as I'm new to the city. This place is fantastic. Quaint, elegant, comfortable, beautiful natural light... dishes were all unexpectedly as divine as the plating. Lunched here 2 days in a row. ? soooo good. ?? friendly staff. Please do not ever change that. ?
We rented the library for a private event with 16 people. The communication with the manager and event coordinator was excellent in preparing for our event!
The library itself is absolutely gorgeous. Perfect room for an event.
We had food from the spring menu and can’t say enough good about it. The bison tartar was unique and delicious. Our mains were amazing, well proportioned and presented.
Our one suggestion was to increase the service staff for our party. We had one server for most of the evening - who did an amazing job, but was definitely busy. During dinner service they added a second server and service was speedy.
All in all, a wonderful experience and we’d definitely recommend this place for an important event.
