Very well maintained trail to the top of the "mountain" with great views of Banff townsite. Several switchbacks take you to the top. With the easy access brings lots of hikers. Can be very crowded on summer days and weekends. Doable im the winter but ice cleats recommended!
On mountain top you can see Banff town and backside view was better
From either the lower or upper parking lots starts a well-maintained trail. It leads to the top of Tunnel Mountain (1692 m), and will let you enjoy views of the entire city of Banff and the beautiful surrounding landscapes. It is suitable for all ages and can be approached during any season of the year. The round trip is about 4.5 km long. The trail is a little bit steep at the beginning, so consider wearing crampons on top of your boots if the road is covered with ice or snow.
This is not a long trail to hike. You can hike with your family and enjoy the beautiful view in the Banff town. If you drive a car, you can just park you car at the lower parking lot and start hiking along the trail.
Have a nice walking!
Lovely hike while staying in Banff. Completely possible to walk to from the hotels for a longer hike. The road up to it is closed in the winter which was A-OK since we were there for a hike anyways!
It’s quite a climb up so make sure to bring water and be careful on your knees when you descend.
I suggest wearing cleats if there’s snow on the ground, definitely helped a lot 😊
