Went camping here Mid-July, and it was lovely. Rained a bit but thats neither here nor there.
The campground was decently clean, although the garbage really needed dumping. Campsites are a decent size, and fairly dry especially on the opposite side from the lake. Beautiful walks in the AM!
Basic/rustic needs. No hookups, but the sites were easy to back the RV into. Great tree coverage. There isn't any directional signage, so use extra caution on the roads.
I thoroughly enjoyed my 2-night stay at Calhoun Bay. Trees, water, and good weather. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because the water is only really usable for boating. Not inviting to swim in from the narrow shore access. I don't think you can launch anything with a motor from the shore either.
We got a good site in the back corner of the loop. Lots of trees throughout the campsite. The sites closer to the road are slightly cramped compared to the ones deeper in. All of them have moderate to good privacy.
Toilets and non-potable water pump are an easy walk from most sites. Toilets are clean.
There's a path at the end of the loop that takes you on a short marsh hike.
Limited cell reception.
No firewood on site. We went into the town of Buck Lake and got a pair of bundles for a good price at the General Store.
Overall, it was a nice, simple little campground. Great if you have a canoe or kayak or paddle board to enjoy the lake with. The sunsets were epic!
By far the cleanest and well maintained unserviced campground our family have been to. We had a quiet relaxing weekend: fishing, boating and just sitting in our campsite. So recharged and ready to face the busy weekdays ahead. We are definitely coming back again next season.
