“I love the fried chicken here! The outside of the chicken is super crispy but not oily, and the meat inside is tender. It’s delicious. I recommend this place if you have a craving for fried chicken while on campus.”

“Glad to hear that the Beanery is still open. This was one of my favorite places to study while doing my master's degree. Pretty quiet in there. Food and drinks are simple but decent. I never had issues with their service.”

“We had Scholar’s Catering provide refreshments (sandwiches, fruit, iced tea) after our wedding ceremony at Cecil Greene as we weren’t allowed to hire other vendors. It was either them or no food. My husband worked with Robert throughout the planning process and he was very professional and accommodating. These three stars are all for him. If it wasn’t for Robert there was a very good chance we would have decided to forego refreshments all together due to the expensive pricing and hidden costs. To start, they charge $8 per head for providing cutlery and napkins. This is not a hidden cost as it is clearly stated on their menus. The pricing for the actual food is not bad. We had originally planned to have a variety of platters ranging from seafood to fruit. We later discovered that that price did not include the cost of labour to prepare the food and serve it during the event. These hidden costs effectively doubled the total price. We thought we would be spared the “serving costs” as our guests could serve themselves since it was all finger food but that was just our wishful thinking. We also asked if we could have the food just delivered and we would set up and serve it ourselves, but that was not an option for large events such as weddings, even though it’s definitely an option on their website. But perhaps options change when the word wedding is attached. Even water is not free as you are charged $1-2 per head to serve that as well. In the end, we still went over budget in order to pay for a fraction of the food we had originally wanted for our guests. And this was after much negotiating. I cannot speak for their sit down lunch and dinner services as we had our reception elsewhere. It’s such a shame as I have nothing but praise for Cecil Greene but UBC restricts you to their catering service. If you’re okay with having 65% of your money go towards labour, service and cutlery charges, most of which are not clearly stated on the menus or website and you only find out after booking your venue, then Scholar’s Catering is a great choice for your wedding.”

“Hidden gem, small scale place but daily hot lunches are pretty good and a decent selection of ready-made items. Their lemonades are really good! Prices run a tad high, comparable with other dining halls and cafes on campus. Not a lot of seating available.”

“For a university, this cafeteria is quite good. It was better than I expected, but it was still a university cafeteria. I wish there were some healthier options other than salad and vegetarian options, but overall the quality of the food was good and the chefs were overall quite nice and efficient. I would have probably rated 4.5 stars, except for these few drawbacks and there is this terrible old lady that works there that acts like she hates people. She just works the line and sometimes the cashier, but she makes it so that people are inclined to eat at another time when she isn’t there just so they can avoid her awful personality. I’m not sure she understands how COVID precautions are supposed to work, and she gets mad at you for being more than a metre away from her when showing her your card to get into the cafeteria or when speaking to her about where you are going to get food. Absolutely disrespectful and kind of treats the other workers like she needs to be involved in everyone’s business.”

“The food was prepared pretty good. Like many others have said it is very oily. I ordered fried chicken and while eating wondered if this was fried fish instead due to how oily it was. My main concern is more about the portion sizes. The 5 piece chicken was so small that I felt a bit deceive. In reality if this restaurant is going to charge this much and give so little food it should be rated a two dollar sign ($$)”

“I really love this restaurant and it's certainly my top choice in terms of noodles and snacks. I was first recommended by a friend when I mentioned my craving for rice noodles that actually taste good. This place didn't disappoint me and I will order it more in the future. Five stars for sure”

“We love your cookies and always celebrated special occasions, end of exams (before as students) with your yummy goodies. You've been a special part of my partner's life since he was a child. We really appreciated Terrence (sp?) making our order/celebration today even more special with his thoughtfulness. 💕 We look forward to when we can come in person. Many thanks, Terrence. 🍪🍪”
