Nice staff and delicious ginger cookies! Also have great-looking homemade pasta.
Lovely homey feel. Smells is delicious. You have to come back a few times to get everything in! Early morning for early risers, later for cinnamon buns etc. Staff was amazingly nice, friendly and helpful! Come here when you visit Summerland!
To those complaining about not being able to pay with a credit card, you obviously don't understand the small margins of these small businesses and trying to make a living. A savvy traveller would know to carry cash when going to independent businesses--giving a business a one-star review because you didn't carry cash reflects badly on no one but yourself.
True Grain is my new favorite find in the Okanagan. We came here the morning after the Penticton fondo, and bought a variety of products for breakfast, then lined up again to buy more to take on our drive home. We tried the cheese twist, the cheese pretzel, the German pretzel, the savoury breakfast bun, and roasted almond chocolate cookies. Everything was delicious, and high quality. The lady behind the counter was very friendly, and did not rush us while we tried to narrow down our selection.
Given the care and quality of ingredients that go into the products, I feel that the prices are really fair. This is not bread made with cheap imported bulk flour. These people actually truly care about the products they produce, and use ingredients to support that belief. They will also tell you about the ingredients if you care to ask.
There is a shelf full of various types of flour you can buy. I am not a baker and have no idea what they all do or what they all mean, but that selection looks impressive.
I would suggest to the store that the "no credit card" policy/sign be made more obvious, just to help those who must pay by credit cards.
We go to the Cowichan Bay location and really enjoy the products and decided to try this location. The Summerland location is just as good and they carry basically the same product line. We were very happy with the service and enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of the store. The cookies that True Grain have are probably the best that I have experienced from any bakery.
