We went solely because our toddler is obsessed with Ore trucks and they have one. I wasn't expecting there to be so much to do, but we spent hours here and had a blast! The cafe could use an upgrade, but the tour was fun and the guide interesting and engaging, I learned a lot and had a really good time.
Highly recommended - this is a must visit museum. Young children would have a blast given that there is a train tour. A great weekend activity.
This place is more than a museum, this is a living historic place. The mine tour is very simple, yet very rich experience. I don't know about the others, but our tour guide was very humble and friendly young person with lots to tell and share about the history of that place. We went there on 50% discounted family day for residents and definitely worth it. Mine tour itself lasts about 40 minutes. Full experience including short movie and exploring around can take 1.5-2 hours depending on your pace.
Great museum to visit. Lots to see and explore. The tour is definitely worth it. It's hard to believe that this place was such a booming and essential part of our national economy right under our noses. It's hard to fathom just how people a generation ago lived, but this place provides some insight and inspiration. Can't wait until the expansion exhibit opens. It would be neat to explore some of the tunnels too. Do they have tunnel exploration days?
We brought our 9 and 11 year old grandsons as their "Make Memories Not Garbage" Christmas gift. In mid-January, on a Friday, we were the only people on our tour!
We stayed for over 3 1/2 hours and had to drag the boys away. A FANTASTIC experience for all of us from age 9 to 65! ????????????????????

It is Britannia Mine Museum's objective to make its site as accessible as possible. However, since this is an actual industrial site from the early 1900's, not all areas are yet wheelchair accessible. We are working to re-structure many areas and make them more wheelchair accessible. Our ongoing efforts will continue in this direction.
