We had the pleasure of staying at Shoal Bay for a weekend at the end of April, and I already can't wait to go back. This is the perfect place to go if you want to escape and unwind.
The owners, Mark and Cynthia, are the kindest and most hospitable people on the planet. They will welcome you into their little piece of paradise with open arms.
The cabins are clean and cozy, and have incredible views of the mainland mountains and Phillips Arm. The kitchen is fully stocked with equipment, just bring your own food. There is no cellphone service here, but they have good wifi in all the cabins.
You can completely submerge yourself in nature here. There are well-maintained hiking trails that lead you through the old growth forest beside an enchanting creek, and even up to an abandoned gold mine. You can go beach combing, swimming, exploring, curl up beside the fire and play card games, or sit on the balcony and watch for wildlife. If you're lucky you'll get to spot the wild raven, Cowboy, who is known for bringing Mark and Cynthia gifts!
We got to Shoal Bay via water taxi and even saw bears and dolphins on the way. Discovery West Adventures and Way West make runs here. You can also take a float plane!
Shoal Bay is one of the best kept secrets in BC. We have stayed here several times, and each time gets harder and harder to leave. It's hard to truly describe what a special place this is, but if you know, you know!
If you are looking for a place to get away for a few days, you could not pick a better location. We have stayed in all three cabins, and love how each have their own unique style. The Cabins are all updated, well maintained, clean, cozy, and have everything you need for your stay. The beds and bedding are 5 star!! Our favorite is the Robin Cabin, we love relaxing on the deck overlooking the bay during the day, and snuggling on the couch in front of the wood stove in the evening. We love the remoteness of Shoal Bay, but Wifi is available if you have a hard time disconnecting from the world completely ;)
Your hosts, Mark and Cynthia are two of the most down to earth and welcoming people you will ever meet. They take a lot of care and pride in the property, and making sure you have a memorable stay. They are there to help if you need anything, but are great at giving you your space as well.
Shoal Bay is boat access only, but there are several options for water taxi's. Discovery West Adventures leaves out of Brown's Bay, and you can even add a wildlife tour on the way!
West coast Shangri-La. Our favourite stop while heading north on our boat. The cottages are beautiful and ideal for passengers to spend a night or two in luxury and enjoy the hiking trails and immerse themselves in the natural westcoast surroundings.
The owners, Mark and Cynthia go all out with pizza nights (baked in their outdoor pizza oven) or pig roasts. You don't want to be late for either of those events. Let's not forget about the annual music festival weekend in the summer either.
Mark and Cynthia are incredible hosts, and hanging out with them was one of the highlights of my trip. If you're going up through the inside set of rapids, please stop here! You won't regret it. The views are stunning, and they will make you feel like you're at home. They work insanely hard to make their place as magical as it is - it really shows. If you're lucky, you might even arrive on a pizza night with an wood-fired oven, which was the best pizza I'd had in ages. :)
