A memorable experience! Learned more about horses in 2 days than from all my prior ride experiences. Excellent staff, beautiful property, well cared for horses, and delicious home cooking...Thanks Debbie! July 2022
I stayed at a different ranch that ended up being a bad experience where they said they couldn't take my 14 and 16 yr old kids and self on a trail ride-we booked 4 nights there... I sent an email to Free Rein Ranch and she got us in that afternoon. There was excellent riding instruction and a very scenic ride through the forest-saw a few deer.Everyone we interacted with were genuine and warm. It elevated my experience of the Bridge Lake region, and would book here next time. The facility looks clean and well run.
Really a great long weekend. We arrived on Thursday night, we were welcomed with a lovely dinner and then the stars came out in full magnitude. It was gorgeous. In the morning on day one - we did horsemanship lessons. I have gone to cattle ranches and dude ranches for years and for a ranch to take the time to do this is not only an amazing experience but really shows how well cared for the horses are and how much the owners want the guest to enjoy the entire experience. Loved the liberty lessons. After a great lunch we went riding in the great BC wilderness. Every day after that was wonderful. The horses are well cared for, the ranch itself is beautiful and well cared for, the beds are so comfortable and Deb's breakfast is top notch. We really relaxed and had fun. Thank you!
This was such an amazing experience!
Right from Vinney the dog giving you a friendly, barkfilled welcome, to the friendly greetings from the staff.
The shed where they have all the gear you may need is very tidy. (Could use a stool or 2).
Off to meet the horses. The best horses around. You get an over view and a briefing. You get to lead your horse to the platforms. The horses are genital, and move easily with gentle movements. No kicking it to go, no whipping it, No abuse at all! They are not afraid of you, which makes it super easy to be relaxed around them. ( specifically when you have a scaredy cat like me!).
You get to go in an arena while your group (only those you are with) loads and you put the commands taught to use.
Off you go with a guided tour! Tara was our guide, she was so calm it kept me calm! Even when we ran into a heard of wild cows! None of the horses did anything!!! Just kept walking. I was comfortable enough that I was able to take pictures while on the trails.
If you are in the Caraboo Region, please come here! Yes we have been to others, and it was a completely opposite experience!
I am just sorry I didn't take more photos!
Wonderful experience. We had no idea we would learn so much horse psychology. Catching your horse each day and working with it at the beginning so it follows you is quite an experience. We say wildlife on the trails including moose and a bear. Debbie matched our riding skills to horses and we got to know our horses well. Highly recommended for kids, a real confidence booster.
