UMFA has a long history of standing up against the austerity measures that are putting all students and employees at the university at risk. In recent years, the Manitoba Labour Board has found that the U of Manitoba administration has dealt in bad faith with the union. UMFA has also joined with other public employee unions in the successful legal case against Pallister's conservative government attack on public sector employees. The government's Public Services Accountability Act has been struck down as unconstitutional. UMFA has stood up for the faculty members at the University of Manitoba, but more importantly, it stands as a safeguard against the austerity agendas that have only served to increase inequity and poverty in this province.
