The eighteen foot long model of the Titanic was awesome! Fine Art Models, was commissioned by Harland & Wolff in 1995 to build the builder's model of RMS Titanic. Harland & Wolff is the same company that built the real RMS Titanic ship. There had never been a builder's model of Titanic built and therefore no one ever knew what the ship really looked like. Fine Art Models was given access to the original plans, drawings and every photograph of Titanic known to exist. It took over 7 years to build the model. That's 4 years more than it took to build the real Titanic. This model is the most accurate model of Titanic ever built. It measures 18 feet long and offers an authentically detailed view of the Titanic as it was in 1912.
Saw an interesting documentary. Always get a smile about the moose family in the lobby. They are fuzzy animals.
This is a neat little museum, full of models of ships. There's also a beautiful doll house.
Simply the most exquisite set of models I have ever seen or even heard of! How is it that this level of expertise is confined to a museum in a small town in eastern Michigan? The quality of this artwork is certainly destined for big venues in the future. Astounding craftmanship!
This is a great museum, lots of incredibly detailed scale models in a nice environment. Some of the models are very rare and valuable. The gigantic Titanic model alone is worth the admission. I believe the operating hours are irregular (weekend only?) so you may want to call ahead. This was a surprising hidden gem, highly recommended.
