Good place to visit. Has a lot of history to it but unfortunately not maintained as one. There are no signs or boards talking about the importance of that place. I think it need some more upliftment to make it like a good tourist spot
I always love visiting this beautiful historic place. The French Castle is beautiful against the backdrop of the water. It's especially fun when they have special events like the French and Indian War encampment.
Awesome historical site!! They even dress in the garments the British wore! Beautiful views across the water to Canada. Be sure to try and catch a musket demonstration and a canon shooting. Also, ask questions!! Dont be afraid to talk to the actors, they know so much information!! The museum is neat and you can see cool artifacts. An awesome visit for anyone who likes history.
Beautiful place to see. Going with a guide helps since you will know the significance of who built which forts in the area. There was also a short display by a soldier of ancient gun powder based gun and shot a fire to show the people visiting. Be respectful of the place since many tourists just jumped to take pictures with the soldiers or were climbing walls where guards had to come and get them off which was sad to watch. But the place is beautiful, surrounded by water and well maintained.
Great place to step back into the early history of our country. While it is a state park, it is not managed/funded by the state park system and there is a fee for getting in. Everything is easily accessible by stroller/wheelchair except for the upper floors of the buildings of course. If in the area, definitely worth the stop. They also have the original flag from the war of 1812, a treat/surprise worth seeing on its own!
