Raymonds Restaurant

This restaurant is the reason I am proud to be a Canadian. I love to see chefs, sommeliers, bartenders and restaurant staff excited about the product they serve because it comes from their backyard. And Raymond's executes on all counts absolutely flawlessly. Worth the price tag. Invest and go here.

I am by no means a fine dining connoisseur nor do I go to high end places very often. Still, from time to time it is fun to go out to a place where each dish is a small artistic masterpiece. Raymond's was a very nice experience all around. The wait staff is as formal as would be expected at a high end place, but they are also warm, welcoming and engaging---to everyone. My wife and I were the youngest people there, but we were treated like royalty from the moment we arrived.

We ordered the five course option and included the wine pairing. I also had the Seaweed Gin and Tonic, which is a superb local twist on the classic. Our waiter was patient and attentive, and we especially appreciated his quick willingness to work with my wife when she requested an alternate to the raw scallop (which I had and loved).

The wine sommelier was more than happy to tell me some about Canadian wines, since they were new to me. I enjoyed each pairing and was happy to see the Canadian vineyards represented. He was polite and knowledgeable and chose a nice selection for the pairing list, while avoiding the pitfall of choosing only jaded French, Italian and Napa names.

If we are back in St. John's, we would definitely return to Raymond's. One word of caution, take the $$$$ price tier seriously... and make reservations a day or two in advance. This place is of the likes of the best in New York, Paris, Tokyo or London. But that preeminence does not come at $$ or $$$ prices. Enjoy!

Hands down our best meal in St. John’s. Service was polished but still warm. The dining room was elegant, we lived our 7 course tasting menu. The lobster and crudo were especially delicious. The star was dessert with the wild blueberries. Well worth the money.

We went there without knowing much about the place, just a recommendation from a friend and we were very pleasently surprised. It's a nice tour of all the local taste you may find around the island, and the food was delicious. We don't drink we can't tell you much about the wine pairing, but it's offered. Watch your budget, can go from 70$ to 145$/person without alcohol but definitely worth it!

A high end dining experience, the food was fantastic and the wait staff was pleasant and helpful. If you are in St. John's and looking for a unique east cost dining experience this should be the top of your list.
