We had such a lovely, relaxing stay here. We arrived late at night after taking the ferry from Portland, Maine, but Tanya welcomed us right away. It was a cozy, pretty room with a marvelous balcony. We enjoyed delicious breakfasts and stunning sunsets there. Tanya went out of her way to make delicious gluten-free things for me for breakfast. I so appreciated it! We were able to readily visit Digby ( have scallops!) and Annapolis Royal. It’s secluded and peaceful, but easily accessible. Tanya was also really knowledgeable about all the nearby restaurants ( as well as in Halifax!), and gave us great recommendations.
My wife and I stayed here for 3 nights. It was lovely. We've been busy and wanted to do a relaxing vacation somewhere we've never been, so we did hours of searching on google maps (and some other sites) and ended up finding this place, which we took a chance on.
It was wonderful. The room was quiet, comfortable, clean, and the view was great. The breakfast here was fantastic. The owners are incredibly friendly and helpful with suggestions on the area and we felt welcomed the whole time. Tanya did an excellent job of checking on us just the right amount and giving us space to just enjoy the area and the room with peace and privacy. The place had all the amenities we could have asked for and the price was very reasonable. We hope to visit again.
My wife and I are both a little into birding and there was constant bird activity between cormorants, gulls, crows, herons, and some ducks I couldn't even identify (similar pack to the cormorants, but slightly different beaks and behaviors). I also saw some of the sea-creatures jumping right out of the water at high tides. I couldn't figure out if it was a seal or a porpoise at the distance (the owner said the striped bass are huge too, but the fins didn't look like that to me on what I saw jump). The jumping didn't happen often, you blink and you miss it, which is why I had a hard time being 100% sure what each was.
Anyway, the tides in the basin (and the whole Bay of Fundy for that matter) were really cool. I attached pictures of high and low tide from our balcony so you can get an idea how much the water moves in and out. You still can't quite imagine it until you see it (even as slow as it is). The rivers and all the nooks and crannies fill and drain every day. The people in the area were all super friendly, and as a couple that doesn't eat sea-food, we did find a few options for restaurants and stuff that serve alternatives (which was great).
Digby looks far away as you can see it across the basin from the room, but it is a very short drive. Annapolis Royal was also very close and and we enjoyed visiting the fort there one day. It's also a pretty easy drive to Kejimkujik park, which we visited another day and found that a beautiful place we'd like to spend more time some day as well.
We had a delightful two night stay here. The accommodations were charming with no detail spared. Tanya and Joe (who live downstairs) were available for any questions or concerns. Tanya’s breakfast baskets, chocked full of freshly baked sweetbread, croissants, granola and fresh fruit and
juice were an wonderful way to start our day. Great views from our windows and terrace. The only thing that kept our experience from being perfect was the noise from the traffic on rt.101. All in all, a great place, highly recommended!
The highest of recommendations! If I could give 6 stars or more I absolutely would. We came to Butterfly Beach House for my partner's birthday and we were treated so well from start to finish. The breakfast was incredible, homemade, and also accommodating to any allergies including gluten free. The room was so cozy and the view is AMAZING. Perfect place to watch the sunset. The hosts Tanya and Joe are amazing people who obviously care about their guests and making sure they feel at home. They went out of their way to wish my partner a happy birthday and setup balloons and a birthday treat. The weekend could not have gone any better. Thank you Tanya and Joe!!
We have been travelling for some time and I didn’t have time till now to send this review.
From the moment we arrived at the gate of this splendid home we felt welcomed. From the private parking spot with our names illuminated to the warmth of our hosts, we knew we had made the right choice. The grounds feature an array of various foliage and shades of green. You can smell the freshness of the ocean as you exit your car. Tanya met us at the door and extended a very warm welcome as she let us know about her home and the services she offers: She does WONDERFUL massage!
Like the picture shows; the private balcony view is fantastic. We were encouraged to walk their private beach; so, beach combing was on the docket.
There was not a detail overlooked. This stay was better than any boutique hotel we have experienced.
Thank you, Tanya and Joe for a wonderful stay!
