The staff are great. This museum deserves more recognition for the work they do in preserving an important piece of Nova Scotia history.
Important part of Canada's history with dedicated staff. Went there with a group of 10 visitors and I can't recommend it highly enough.
Unfortunately totally neglected by the city, the province, the nation. Seeing that there are no bus stops, no sidewalks, no bike lanes leading to this famous site of Canadian history and the fact that the museum is run without regular government funding shows that the discrimination against the black community in Canada and its history of oppression have not ended yet.
I usually don't write long reports here on Goolge like this, but it was definitely worth sitting down writing this after a very pleasant visit. Go and visit!
The museum is tucked away in what used to be the community of Africville. If you think you are going to an industrial area, don't worry, you're not going in the wrong direction, it actually is hidden from Bedford highway. The museum is filled with interesting tidbits of information that you might not encounter by simple research. Despite having watched numerous documentaries and read quite a bit on the subject I still learned much from the visit. This is also in large part thanks to the general manager, who is a veritable well of information and took the time to answer all my questions. I highly recommend a visit!
Important to remember and recognize how NOT to treat people. Very well done memorial.
Staff was very friendly and informed. Raising awareness about a lesser known part of history. the museum is small but I recommend engaging with the staff for a personalized experience.
africville museum. the museum, a replica of the church destroyed in the 1960s, tells the story of africville, from its settlement by early black immigrants until its destruction.

(902) 455-6558 Like my Canadian War Museum review. This one, while recognizing how beautiful an well put together this museum is, puts somewhat of a damper on your spirits.
Today, the Africville Museum stands in a replica of the church that was the emotional heart of Africville. Inside, audio-visual kiosks, pictures, descriptive panels, and artifacts tell the story of the Africville community by commemorating the injustice of this destruction and celebrating the strong community spirit that still endures to this day.
