Although our experience at Murphy camping on the Ocean was at the end of the season and we did not participate in the nightly fireside festivities or morning coffee at the Sailors Rest, we had a wonderful weekend. We found the owners and other guests were very friendly. The owners were knowledgeable of currents and tides as we are new SCUBA divers and were interested in taking a dive. The water was very rough but the small inlet was a good area to practice some of our SCUBA safety procedures. We didn't manage to get our scallop licences but we found a couple golf balls.
Super charming and beautiful. Lovely place to get away from the city. Free coffee in the mornings, the boat tour was so much fun, kayak rentals would 10/10 recommend, such a gorgeous spot to explore. Will be back!
This is a great little campground! Beautiful location and the owners are so nice. It's like you're part of the family! highly recommend kayaking around the islands. We'll be back again :)
Considering what we have experienced so far this summer, Murphy's is by far one of our favorite campgrounds. We booked again in site 35 in September water front. Every site has pros and cons in every campground. You can't control the weather, or mosquitoes, or tides of the water, but having a warm welcome and friendly owners makes it worth it. I hope our next experience is a good one too.
First off, they recommend that if you are inexperienced then you should not rent the kayaks or canoe. I didn’t know this when arriving so we were not able to do that.
The second day it poured all day and called for thunder and lightning so our boat tour was cancelled. HOWEVER - the staff were incredible and got us out on a boat tour the day we were leaving (we only stayed 2 nights) AND we were given the boat tour at a discounted price.
The tour consisted of site seeing, fishing, driving the boat, and jumping off of it near an island! (The water was absolutely freezing but it was an amazing experience)
At night they have a cute little fireplace that other campers and staff sit and chat around.
There are super friendly squirrels all around (lots of them but they are so adorable) and lots of things to find by the water like star fish, crabs, fish, etc.
The sites are a little small but still big enough to fit your vehicle and a large tent. There is also free coffee in the morning from 7am-10am!
I 100% recommend this campground and will definitely be coming back again.
