Went here during my Royal Caribbean 6 nite Canada New England cruise last week this cemetery is incredible seeing the Titanic graves was really interesting and seeing the graves of different shapes/designs I really enjoyed my short time here also I like how the cemetery is rite next to the railroad tracks as I luv trains
After all of the these I love it and by the way the Titanic hit the ice burg on 14th and sank on15th and switched titanic with olimpic the olimpic sank not titanic rip the three sisters
Fairview Lawn Cemetery is perhaps best known as the final resting place for 121 victims of the April 15, 1912 RMS Titanic disaster, including the grave of J Dawson made famous by the 1997 Titanic movie, and that of the Unknown Child. However, therer's much more to see at this historical cemetery.
There's a number of famous Canadians buried here including the Singer, Songwriter and Canadian member of the Mamas and the Papas folk group of the 1960s, Denny Doherty. Also here are the graves of some 2000 victims of the December 1917 Halifax Harbour explosion when the SS Imo, a Norwegian freighter, collided with the SS Mont Blanc, which was crammed with munitions bound for the war raging at that time in Europe, resulting in the biggest man-made explosion of the pre-atomic age that destroyed a big part of the city. There are also 29 war graves of Commonwealth service personnel, 20 from World War I and 9 from World War II.
It's a very peaceful and well maintained cemetery with lots to see. A visit is highly recommended.
I've only been here to view the Titanic grave sites. Years ago when I first visited it was in better condition due to less traffic going through the area. Now, there are a lot of tour buses that bring people through it. I overheard a tour guide as he shared some of the stories. Some were accurate, others were a bit stretched (read fabricated) to make for a more entertaining story I guess. I was disappointed to be there while all of the tours came through, but if you can avoid those times it's definitely worth a visit even if you are not a Titanic enthusiast.
The cemetery was gorgeous and well cared for. I was able to take my time and look through the entire titanic memorial. I would suggest that you take a guided tour though, they have tons of information on the victims, it was beautiful.
