Today, January 31, 2023, in NE Ohio it is sunny, but very cold. A stay-at-home day, I decided to cook comfort (pasta). I opened a small cookbook my husband obtained while staying at Witman Inn in Caledonia, NS 24 years ago. It was his last trip, but it was very spiritual and a miracle. I made Nancy's Pasta Sauce, which is so different. I've made it a few times, but today, again, it brought back memories of a miracle-a trip that brought a return to Jesus.
The sauce is almost like a tomato stew containing amazing ingredients that blend together for a different experience. And while I see Witman Inn is no longer, maybe there is hope that Kempt Country Inn has the rights to offer Nancy's Pasta Sauce, keeping a tradition and spiritual secret alive.
This is a great place to stay! The rooms are nice and clean and the have a games room.
The games room has a pool table, tv and seating, a custom arcade style cabinet with games and a PC. There is a pool. It looks nice and clean.
The breakfast was yummy.
The property is nice and secluded. I spoke with the owner who is extremely friendly. He let me know he's putting a lot of work in to the place to spruce it up a bit and fix up a few things.
Go try it out!
The new owners are amazing. Recently taking on the Inn as a labor of love - it's a bed and breakfast in the midst of transforming. We stayed in the not yet upgraded romance room - I still have no idea how they fit the tub in there. The pool is great, (the sauna isn't currently functioning, fyi) the gaming room is really awesome (look for more additions there in the coming years)
For places near Keji park for us not able to even glamp and wanting modern amenities; this is a fantastic spot. It's a much older building with piles of the antique charm, but still desperately needing some upgrades upon 'turnkey' purchase. These are in progress and I'm excited to see the year to year changes - be patient! While five star is unlikely in this area this is one of the more welcoming, comfortable and clean spots I've ever seen. I've had stays in many other parts of the USA and Canada corporate owned and privately (and five star!) that weren't as clean or welcoming. I sleep poorly in places I don't feel comfortable in, but I slept well here.
It's wifi is Starlink provided at the moment, and, lemme tell you, Elon has some work to do... It's not ideal, like most Starlink connections, for work from vacation situations, so don't expect a stable VM, steaming movies or anything, but a few disconnects and reconnects can get your email and other needs going. It's a very relaxing environment with plenty to do when you want to mostly actually disconnect and enjoy nature. There are friendly chickens and ducks roaming the property in the warmer months to enhance the country experience.
Currently, dinner isn't on offer, but, it's a future consideration by the new owners as they update and upgrade their vacationers experience. Other ala cart or extra items may be added as well to rooms and stays.
The only single real complaint of the Inn itself I have is that it isn't wheelchair accessible (being a part time user myself) it is, however, easily rectified with a storable, deployable ramp. The romance room is on the first floor, and there aren't many stairs to access it. Call ahead if you have mobility issues and need them accommodated as rooms can go quickly.
The other major complaint I have is with some guests who appear to feel entitled to room upgrades when they booked only a few days before and other people (who booked months ahead - like we did) shouldn't be in the more expensive room they feel entitled to. If you're going through a travel agency, even last minute, pay extra for it, and they give you what's available, that isn't another guests problem. We did our due diligence and if your agency didn't, pick on their services not pick apart tiny defects in the place that you stay in. It's not the owners fault, and we're under no obligation to move for you.
Excellent location, close to Keji Park. The new owners accommodated an early breakfast, since we had to leave earlier. Rooms have private bathroom, hot water all day. The house has an indoor pool. Really lovely stay, will visit again.
