Came here 2 years ago & wouldqa given 10 dtars; I had the best hot chocolate I had ever had; made by a french blonde girl.
Came back now & the white girl sorted a major order out & did a great job; the black girl was clueless, glared at other customers & acted irritated because no one understood her accent; the hot chocolate this time was just regular; similar to a timmies one; oh well. I guess even at a history museum; somethinfs just dont last forever...
Good cafe. They have very less vegan options though. They have a burger station, a salad bar, a pizza station and I guess one more bakery station. We pretty much gave up on the bakery and the pizza as far as the vegan is concerned. We went for a soup, next to the salad bar, and fries just to fill up our stomachs for a few hours before we have a meal somewhere.
The soup was okay - not much in terms of taste or even texture. Fries were good actually. Not a very encouraging cafe but I guess one can bring their own food and get some drink from the cafe to go.
The best part of the cafe is the outside seating which has a great view of the Parliament Hill and the Alexander Bridge.
We’ve been to this cafeteria twice, and once was during a weekday where we enjoyed sitting out on their patio on a beautiful sunny day overlooking the Ottawa River and is directly across from the Parliament Buildings.
That first time was very memorable for just how perfect the weather was and how pretty Ottawa can be along the water. We ate prepackaged sandwiches with a small bottle of juice and really enjoyed our experience there.
The second time we invited family along during a rainy weekend and it was packed and a bit chaotic, so overall your experience here will greatly depend on when you visit.
I could see how it could feel expensive if you need to feed a whole family and everyone wants something fresh from the hot bar, but at least they have a lot of selection and it’s available conveniently right there in the museum.
The high rating is based mostly on our first experience when it wasn’t busy and for having one of the nicest patios riverside with Parliament Hill directly across from you.
Price reasonable. Chicken tenders a bit dry. Mac and cheese a bit dry. The outside seating is good and kids friendly. Very scenic.
